Thanks MTV...

Young Jeezy- Welcome Back

I love this song to death, but I have a problem with this video. Actually, I don't really have a problem with the video as much as I do with the growing tread of rappers making videos only for the hood DVDs and the YouTube. This tread has a direct correlation to the fact that MTV, and thankfully, BET, no longer showcase music videos as the cornerstone of their networks.

As a result, artists sometimes just piece together tour footage and "hood" shots, run it through iMovie, and pop it onto the internet. Whatever happened to videos that told stories, or made you think? Hell, can I just get a video that might could be played on TV? Maybe this says more about the ways that we as consumers consume music and music videos. Perhaps artists are saying, if you're not gonna buy our albums, we're not gonna waste our money on extravagant videos.

IMO, rappers should use the internet to push the boundaries and make videos for songs that have an anti establishment message, kinda like Nas' "Sly Fox" video:

Don't mean to preach, but come on... how can you blame me? What do you think?

BET Sucks Pt 2: Some General Comments

T-Pain

What can I say positive about this clown? The son-of -a bitch that stole my look (I did it better, btw) also stole the show tonight, but not really in a good way.  At one point in the show, the geniuses at BET had T-Pain perform all of the songs that he was featured on in a segment called "... featuring T-Pain". This segment made me realize that T-Pain has put in a lot of work over the last three years. Love him or hate him, you gotta respect his hustle for being on that many records.

With that being said, couldn't they get this guy an instrumental?? How you gonna be outsung by your own voice. Long story short, his performance was a joke. Although it was nice to see Big Boi on the "I'm soo Hood Remix". At least there was one real MC on the stage....

Rick Ross

PUT A FUCKIN SHIRT ON!!!!

As a man with small beer belly who keeps his shirt on, I'm gonna ask you nicely... PUT A SHIRT ON!!!!

Nedra's Comments about the topless Rick Ross:

"I'm absolutely disgusted"

Need I say more??

Lil Wayne

Let it be known, I'm not the biggest fan of The Carter III. Its okay, not great, NOT a classic. All of the drought cds (except for the god awful drought 4) were MUCH better than the album (Shout to all the Lil Wayne fanboys, cause you can't tell them that Wayne isn't bigger than Jesus).

Now, the performance tonight... sucked. Again, T-Pain was outsung by his rerecorded voice and Wayne was just screaming and sauntering around like Count Dracula on Halloween. And to make things worse, at the end , he dropped to his knees as if Baby was on stage asking for some neck. (PAUSE)

The point I'm trying to make is that until Wayne becomes a complete artists, I will not call him the best rapper alive. To be blunt, he's nothing more than the Hip Hop version of Amy Winehouse. He's very talented, but he's so high half the damn time you don't know what's going on.

Synopsis: this award show was fuckin weak. Ne-Yo's set sucked, I had to watch Chris Brown swing his stuff at Ciara and I was subjected to a chubby Alicia Keys Impersonator (please tell me she's not preggers...).

The best performance of the night (by far) went to Rihanna. She was classy, on key and light skinned... uh, i mean sexy.

Do yourself a favor, read a book. Don't even think of watching this show again...

BET Sucks PT 1: Obama or Die

"All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance
and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."

No these are not Lil Wayne lyrics, they are words of wisdom from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. BET kills me, they have to platform and the power to uplift humanity by showing the best parts of the black experience in America. However, if you watched the BET awards tonight, you know that BET has ZERO interest in the uplifting of black people. They'd prefer to show black folks making a damn fool of themselves while shuckin and jiving on stage in front of other shuckers and jivers.

What's even worse, is BET takes possible great moments in black history and absoultely shits on them. Case in point, Diddy and his "Obama or Die" comments. Instead of trying to raise awareness for young voters to research and use their political agency, Diddy insists that you simply vote Obama. HOW SOCIALLY IRRESPONSIBLE IS THAT?!?

Be clear, most Americans (myself included) have no clue where politicians stand on various issues; hence, they have a hard time making their own decisions on candidates. Back to Diddy, by making a statement like 'Obama or die' you have robbed a young voter of his right to chose his or her own president. Black people did not protest and die for the right to vote for you to take that same right from young voters in this election.

And whats worse is that after making the comment, Diddy called for a round of Ciroc Vodka in celebration. Really Diddy? Product placement? Now? To Diddy and all the other idiots at BET awards tonight, Obama's campaign is no more than a shameless plug to increase their camera time. Does Diddy know about Obama's policies on Social Security and Medical care? Maybe, but you wouldn't know it from tonight.

If you endorse Obama, terrific! But do, do it because you believe he's a better candidate than McCain, not because Puff Daddy or Diddy or whatever the fuck he calls himself tells you to.

Its bad boy bitch!!

More BET hate to come...
