Sifting through the news/ my RSS reader today, I realized that the Grammys are a week away. In case you are under 40 and don't know, the Grammy's is an award show where all of the youngest most talented artists get together and listen to music awards being presented, as voted for by very untalented, old, "wise and sage-like" white men. Instead of getting into all of the categories, such as Best Contempory Jazz Album, or Best Contemporary Song to Lose Your Virginity To, I'll focus on the grandaddy of them all: Album of the Year.
Nominees:
-"Viva La Vida" by Coldplay
-"Tha Carter III" by Lil' Wayne
-"Year of the Gentleman" by Ne-Yo
-"In Rainbows" by Radiohead"
-"Rising Sand" by Robert Plant
First and foremost, who the fuck is Robert Plant???? That choice goes WHOOP! out the window.
Next, Ne-Yo... REALLY?? I understand that 2008 was the Year of the Gentleman, yes I get it. But guess what, its 2009: The year of the Bro! So Ne-Yo and his lackluster album can go WHOOOP! out the window as well.
Now, lets get to the real nominees:
Viva La Vida

I really dug this album and I'm sure those old white bastards at the Academy did as well. What was really awesome about Viva La Vida was that musically, it was all over the place. It was contemporary, it was rock, it was so many things, yet crafting very evenly.
Tha Carter III

I know I shat on this album royally when it first came out (see older posts as proof), but as time went on, I understood more and more why people embraced this album. I did, in its own unique way, push the boundries of what a Hip Hop album could be. It also drew in an audience that had given up on Rap due to the genres' monotony and repetitious content. And lets face it, people love Wayne. Will the Academy take that into account.
In Rainbows

As a Radiohead fan, I loved this album... but I will say this, its not even close to their best work. If "Kid A" or "Okay Computer" (Which is one of the 5 best albums ever, of ANY genre) can't win, I really don't wanna see In Rainbows win.
So In the end, its Coldplay vs. Weezy. I give it to Coldplay, because its the Grammys. Who do you think should win????? Speak on it!
