G Unit vs Rick Ross Recap

People who know me, know I try not to pay attention to rap beef. More times than not, it just yields the kind of material which warrants smh matter and leads to me searching for a Radiohead playlist ASAP. But, this G Unit vs Rick Ross thing is turning out to be rather interesting. Between the new music and all the viral videos being produced, its making for very entertaining (yet smh) material... Lets recap:

Officer Ricky "In Too Deep"

Rick Ross-- Interview on 102 Jamz

Both equally interesting, but whats really note worthy is that this beef has some how rejuvenated both Ross and the G-Unit's music. They are putting out some EXCELLENT material, which is the most important thing. As funny as all the viral videos and interviews are, the best part about beefing is that if you release some wack material, you are commiting career suicide. Check out some new tunes:

Rick Ross- Magnificent f/ John Legend (official video)

Lloyd Banks-- Radio (HOT HOT HOT TRACK!)

50 Cent- Officer Ricky

Lets hope the beef stays on wax, because after seeing that video 50 put on his site (NOT SFW) of Ricky's ex girl getting PIPPED... anything can happen

Rick Ross vs. 50 Cent-- Mafia Music (video)

Ugh, I really don't have much of an interest in this madness, but appearently, most people do. So here is the next chapter of the Rick Ross & 50 Cent beef.

Rick Ross- Mafia Music

The more I think about it, DaTurnpike's very own MK said it best, Ross is by far the better rapper, but 50 already won. Adios Officer Ricky, it was nice knowing you.

Speaking of which, check out 50's interview with radio personality Big Boy:

Wow, so Def Jam is trying to downplay the beef? Ross, you've offically been chopped and screwed...

New Trend: Rappers beefing...

Written by MK the King

So currently 50 Cent and Rick Ross are beefing. Over what nobody seems to really know but the point is they both released diss records towards each other (Ross claiming Mafia Music ended 50’s career lol). But that ain’t the point of this article. If you read this blog then I’m sure you’re aware of the video of 50 Cent taking Rick Ross’ baby mom and her friend out on a shopping spree. If you haven’t seen it then right here would be a good place for Joe to insert it...

In this new age of beef rap, a hot record is unnecessary to win the battle. Simply make the other guy look like an ass no matter how much better his diss is than yours and you win. Hell even Bow Wow and Soulja Boy are beefing right now over who has the better Lamborghini (do NOT insert those videos here Joe). It has become more about your credibility as a person away from the music instead of if you can actually make good music. When was the last time 50 had a hit single? Not to say that Rick Ross is killing the game but he’s had a few hits over the past couple years and right now has more momentum music wise than 50. When 50 went after Ja Rule he attacked his character not really his music and never actually responded to Ja’s “Loose Change” diss which many regard as better than any of 50’s solo disses (read solo disses as those not featuring Eminem or G-Unit). When he went after Jadakiss he talked about him being a bitch for the whole Puffy situation but couldn’t say shit about the diss record Jada killed him with. I’m saying all that to simply say this...no matter what Rick Ross does in this battle with 50 he’s going to come out on the losing end of it.

Rick Ross could make the hottest diss song since Ether and as long as 50 can go on youtube and make a funny video about Rick Ross being a former correctional officer people are going to give him the win. I never thought I’d say this but 50 won…

Keep rappers away from my Xbox 360...

Shout out to IGN for posting this.

Footage from 50's new video game, Blood in the Sand, which is set to release soon.

I did a piece a few weeks ago about why I hate Hip Hop's commercialism and accepted explotation by the entertainment industry. Seperating myself from my love for Hip Hop, as a gamer, this game looks God awful. Unless your a 15 year old white kid from Nebraska, I have no desire to see 50 Cent travel to the Middle East and kick ass. While I do suffer from a Napolean complex, I don't need to pretend to be 50 to feel powerful... not for me.

The ab libs are some what comical, though. Can't be mad at Fif, he's just chasing the paper... But this got me to thinking, what are some other Hip Hop video games that could be made? Heres a quick list of some possibilities:

Possible Story Lines for  Future Hip Hop Video Games:

  • Rick Ross in "Boss: Under Cover", players will navigate the Miami boss as he goes under cover as a Trap Rapper in order to lock up rappers dealing coke
  • Cam'Ron  stars in "Bully 2" as a little boy surviving prep school
  • Jim Jones and Ron Browz in "Harlem: The Video Game", players gain points for entering button combinations that perform stupid songs and dance moves, all in auto-tune.
  • Lil Wayne takes the leading role in "Rock Band 3: The Syrup Files"

Diggin in the Crates: G-Unit

Lets go back for a brief moment. Remember the first time you heard 'Wanksta'? I was in Delaware in high school in my man Colin's room and we both thought that this dude 50 Cent was the hardest rapper out (pause).

Flash foward a bit: remember when you heard that this rapper 50 Cent had a crew and they was callin themselves the 'G-Unit'. Maybe you were a little skeptical, until you heard some of their mixtapes. Remember '50 Cent is the future' or 'God's Plan' and how they introduced you to Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo?

Did you think Lloyd Banks was the next great lyricist in rap?

Lot of great memories right?? Okay, lets make a sharp left at the present.

The G- Unit just released their new album T.O.S, and to be honest, its not that bad. I guess 50 learned that most dudes, and most women, to be frank, don't wanna hear his monkey ass talking about all the things he'll do to women. That shit wasn't working. The new album is a welcome departure from all that pop friendly content and a return to what the Unit did best: straight up hardcore rap, no chaser.

Sounds good right? Well, there's one big problem... 50 CENT IS A FUCKIN BILLIONARE? Do you really think he's gonna jepordize his substantial wealth to "keep it hood" like he used to back when Power of a Dollar came out. To be honest, the whole thing just feels forced to me.

I think this is a dope record, but again it just feels like 50 is trying to hard to be what he used to be. On another note, check out Tony Yayo... he actually can rap now. On the other hand, Lloyd Banks has regressed from being a lyrical beast to being an average lyricist. He just doesn't stand out. You can "Stick a bottle in a hoe", sweet life Banks... go kill yourself. As for Young Buck, every verse he spits on this album (there are only 6 of them) is incredible. 50 really messed up kicking him (and Game) out, I guess it was because they were far superior to 50 and the rest of the gang lyrically.

Long story short, I think it might be too late for the Unit to revive what they once had. But they did leave us with some great records along the way. What do you think???
